Yes, for those smart people out there, this is the same competition that Sean Daniel, and others are running, but not the same prizes. Yes, the prizes are the same, ie 2 copies of the book, but, Sean has two different copies that i have. Yes, it is the same book, but not physically the same, ie, technically there are 4 or more books being awarded, i have 2 of them.

Hope that is all perfectly clear.

Books

metro-bookBooks are one of my favourite ways to learn new technology, and brush up on the existing technology we have deployed.

I always have a stack of ‘Pocket Consultant’ books on my desk, and especially now with the surge in popularity of eBooks, and a Kindle App for my phone, i have even more books in my pocket when i am on the road. Read more of this post

Quick Fix : DNS Forwarders SBS 2011 Essentials

sbse-con

Update – This post will also apply to Windows Server 2012 Essentials

I have seen a number of posts on the forums about people who are having trouble with DNS Resolution on SBS 2011 Essentials.

Sean Daniel posted an excellent explanation of the how’s and whys of Essentials and DNS, and why the Server has a Dynamic IP… <shudder>

Anyway, knowing why something does something, and not being happy with it doing it, are two separate things.

So, if you want to force your DNS Forwarders to be something other than your Default Gateway, or, to use something else instead, you can build a simple scheduled task to do this.

Quick Fix: FTP on SBS 2011 (Server 2008 R2)

sbsstdI have a new client who migrated to SBS 2011. They run some shipping label software that FTP’s information down from a server online to a local database on the server.

It used to run on a Server 2003 member server, but part of the migration was to move this onto the SBS 2011 box.

The company who support the software did the transfer, but when the software stalled when trying to ftp in, they had exhausted their knowledge and were out of ideas.

“…er, yeah don’t know how to do this on SBS…” Read more of this post

Migrating to SBS 2011 Essentials eBook

sbse-conFor over a year i have been working with the idea of publishing a guide on Migrating to SBS 2011 Essentials.

It did start life as a blog series all that time ago but quickly became a huge project. I had shelved it for a while as I worked on a number of other posts, and projects, including a number of books, including the MS Press SBS Essentials title, and also a book on Windows Intune.

It has been nagging away at me that it wasn’t finished. I do hate leaving things half done.

Good news however, I finished it recently and decided rather than publish it as a blog post, to wrap it up as an eBook. One of the reasons is it is over 130 pages long.

This item is no longer available if you are interested in a copy please get in touch.

Thanks.
