This one puzzled me for several hours this week. After making some changes to the structured cabling we were alerted to an issue preventing SSLVPNs from connecting.
Anyone attempting to connect saw the progress stop at 98% received an error similar to :
Unable to establish the VPN Connection (E=98,T-981066010,M99,R10)

This is an issue that has caught me out once or twice in my testing and general messing about with Essentials over the last age, and also someone in the forum just posted a question along these lines so i thought it worth a post. I have been struggling with a bit of ‘writers block’* recently and this seemed to be something easy to get back into blogging again with.
* I do not consider myself to be a writer, merely a lazy admin who had nothing interesting to say.

Following on from my recent post about SSL issues, another topic of conversation is the actual SSL installation process for the RWA.
Again i have blogged on that before, and the new Essentials 2012 wizard makes the process a lot lot easier. However if you get stuck with generating a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) then you can always use IIS to do this for you.

I have blogged before about setting up the RWA on Essentials, we all remember that mammoth post right?
The countless hours we wasted trying to make the wizard work, troubleshooting certificates with GoDaddy, Enom, Microsoft and that’s before you worry about where your domain name is hosted. Thankfully, or should it be, mercifully, in Essentials 2012 the whole wizard process is a lot cleaner and dare i say more intuitive.
That is, however, unless you lack an understanding of what this stuff actually does and how it works.

It has been a year since i first went through the process of installing a Third Party SSL certificate onto my SBS Essentials server.
I going through the renewal process, so i thought it might be an idea to document and blog it in case anyone else is also doing this.

Those of you following me on Twitter will no doubt have seen or ignored more than a few tweets from me recently about how much i like PowerShell.
Not least because it makes you look clever if you have a script open on one of your monitors.

I have been spending some time answering questions in the SBS Essentials forum over at TechNet recently, and i noticed that there is still a lot of outstanding questions and issues with the Remote Access wizard for SBS Essentials, especially surrounding installing an SSL Certificate.
One of the big headaches comes when you have a domain with one of the ‘supported’ registrars, Enom or GoDaddy. Read more of this post
